How CSK set up contrary energies to turn into an IPL batting behemoth

By guaranteeing that they pair left-right blends and twist hitters with pace hitters, CSK have altogether raised the roof of their line-up

Something really doesn't add up about the scorecard from the season-opener of IPL 2024.

The three Regal Challengers Bengaluru spinners have bowled five overs between them for only 37 runs. The two fingerspinners have gone for only 13 out of three. But that is where they stop despite the fact that the Chennai Super Lords - Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni specifically - are suspect against turn. That is a result of the presence of twist disruptor Shivam Dube, against whom RCB continue to bowl their quicks.

Of the 50 balls bowled after Dube's landing in the wicket, 44 are bowled by the quicks. Dube faces only 13 of the initial 31 bundles of speed in this period, allowing Jadeja to score 24 off 16 at the opposite end, which is a rate faster than whatever is required.

We should envision the decisions the RCB chief has. He can attempt to close down Jadeja's end by continuing with turn, however he risks surrendering sixes to Dube, which can end the match in a rush. So Faf Du Plessis goes for speed, and desires to get Dube out early so he have some control over the rest with turn. Dube, however, plays it sagaciously and allows Jadeja to score goes against a great coordinate.

CSK have been called old fashioned in the past by T20 idealists. That they go more on energies and feel than information. Not extremely imaginative, many have called them. What they rather are is this: less combative, yet keeping watch for each little benefit. Indeed, even the energies and their vibe for the game depend on information collected in the extraordinary cricketing psyches of Stephen Fleming and Dhoni.
